Does "Weight Watchers" accept robots?

posted Feb 18, 2012 2:56 PM by Eli Bliss

For the first time ever in Gladstone Robotics History, our robot is over weight! With a few things still needing to be installed on our robot, and our robot already exceeding 120lbs,  we are trying to find new ways to cut down our weight. With a bit of conversion, swapping woods for lighter metals and all unnecessary parts being cut out, we will definitely get our weight under control very soon.

3 days to the end of build season...

This is what our robot will look like. With our robot coming together very nicely, we plan on having a couple days of drive practice with our robot!

6 Days? Challenge accepted

With only 6 days remaining to the build season productivity has been maximized! We here at 3131 seem to think that Dean Kamen is laughing in some fancy high tech. office laughing at all these posts with a cup of coffee in his hand. well played Dean Kamen. we will rise to greatness!

80-20, meet mecanum. Mecanum, meet 80-20!

Our 80-20 base is ready for mecanum wheels to be installed. one of tonight's many goals.  And with people out side for the local elementary school's Band and Choir concert, it would be really cool to show them how mecanum wheels can run circles around...anything!

A Janitors Nightmare!

posted Feb 2, 2012 7:01 PM by Eli Bliss

4 weeks in and the workshop is booming! so many different things going on at once! the only answer to "what can I help with?" is:"well just find a table and get cranking!" With our workshop not being needed for a class, cleaning up is the last thing on our mind. A true nightmare for any janitor! Don't worry, well clean up after build season ends.

3 weeks into build season and we finally have our shooter ready to test! last night we tested our shoter for the first time! it worked fairly well and now its just time to dial it in!

3 weeks in...

We may Still be in the prototyping phase of our build progress but hey it couldn't be more fun around here. From our prototypes we have decided that we want to have an offensive strategy. A robot that will get the ball in the hoop will be better than a robot that can only block, or so we think. We still have to decide if we want to use mecanum wheels or if we want to use a two wheel drive system.

While we have been busy in the shop our mentors have been out of the office shopping for parts that we will need. using AndyMark and the 100 credits FIRST has given us us we will not need to spend as much money as we would have needed. Our teams designer has made buttons that we will get to hand out to people at events to get people excited about robotics and FIRST. He has also made a better banner that will definitely awe some at the competition.

We here at Gladstone robotics would also like to graciously thank Clackamas Steel for supplying us with some very appreciated and needed metal to help build our field, and some parts for prototypes. Thank you and remember, if you feel behind in the process, FIRST is all about inspiration  not depression. so keep your chin up and screw that bolt in tight! Because we got a robot to build and its gonna be fun!
